Tackle Today: Directional or Cash Flow trading

How are you tackling this market?

Traders,

This morning’s market action is mixed as reports from Wal-Mart, Home Depot and Kohls came in regarding their quarterly earnings reports.  As expected, the retailers saw increased sales online compared to in person, and generally beat their expectations for the 2nd Quarter.  Oil is stuck in its range, while gold is pushing near $2000 per ounce and the US Dollar is breaking below support.

These are the themes that have been in place for some time, and the question is: how are you trading them?

When charts trend, directional trading is the best approach.  When charts stagnate, cash flow trading takes the lead.  Many traders use a combination of both, as they build their swing and position trades.

Using different trading styles, and adapting to changing market conditions, is a valuable tactic to use if you can do so.  It is wise to learn how to day trade, swing trade, position trade, and invest using directional AND cash-flow principles.

You may have your favorite approach, and a developed system.  If so, great!  If not, get to work.  And, even if your system is dialed in, do you know how to adapt to changing market conditions with new techniques if needed?

Here is a challenge of the day, spend some time evaluating different trading strategies and styles so that you understand them.  Also, think about how they may play a role in your own trading and investing plans as you build your skillsets.
