Tackle Today: Moving Averages

≈ How do you use them?

Traders,

Moving averages are extremely popular tools amongst traders – beginner and veteran alike. Which moving averages do you use on your charts?  The two common types are either Simple Moving Averages (SMA) or Exponential Moving Averages (EMA).  The most common moving averages used by the coaches include the following:

  • 9 EMA
  • 20 SMA
  • 50 SMA
  • 200 SMA

If you learn to use these 4 together, and across different time frames like the Weekly Chart, Daily Chart, and Intraday Charts, they can give you a lot of actionable information very quickly.

If you sit in the trader’s lounge, coaches show, halftime report or any of our other webinar classes you will undoubtedly hear the coaches refer to moving average signals – either as entry points, technical catalysts like support or resistance, and trend identifying confirmation tools.

If you are new to using moving averages, start by adding the most used ones to your chart so that you can start reading them as you analyze your technical conditions. If you are a veteran, consider writing out your rules on how you are using these tools and why. Do you trade moving average signals, or do you simply use them as confirmation tools?  These are important questions, and it is worth it to spend some time answering them.
