The concept of patience can be very hard to grasp to many of us out there including myself, that want results RIGHT NOW. People who are just starting out in trading get upset when they don’t see results in a month or two, for some a year even and not becoming that market assassin that they strive to be. Another example would be in fitness when there are people who after eating well for a week and working out are not looking the way they want to. Hmm, think about it from this perspective…
How long did it take for you to look and feel the way you do right now? Day one. How long did you neglect training consistently and eating properly? Did you have a daily routine implemented? Did you journal your trading? Did you put together a system for your trading to allow you to stay disciplined to your plan? What was the amount of time you procrastinated everything that you were supposed to do?
Now take a step back and relax, it’s alright. We’ve all been there, just give yourself an adequate amount of time to get it all back together. Being too critical of yourself isn’t going to get you anywhere positive, just understand that its all part of the process that every one of us has had to go through at some point.
Here’s the ironic part that I’ve experienced, it can happen faster than it is to mess everything up. Being patient allows you to gain a greater understanding of the knowledge you learn throughout the process. The process is a great teacher. If you can stay consistent and engaged with the content and the community, the process becomes way more enjoyable. It can get to the point where you’re addicted to it because you now see the success and confidence it provides you. I am a huge believer that once you get a grasp of something, just a small taste of it and the feeling it provides you almost that feeling like a kid when you finally learn how to ride a bike without training wheels you don’t want to stop riding that bike! No matter how many times you fall, you know the feeling it gives you. “I know how to do it, so I’m going to keep doing it regardless if I fail.” When you are in that mental space, that’s when you also know you have true self-belief in yourself and that’s key to have success in anything in my life if you think about it. Sure, the aspects of the process can be difficult initially, but through time, your mind starts to process things differently. You recognize you are making progress every day, you’re learning through the Cash Flow Club or the Halftime Report and you begin to understand what you have to do in order to exceed your expectations.
You know, it truly comes down to the amount of time you put in at the end of the day when I sit back and think about it. Through Tackle, you willingly know you have the proper information, the proper set up in your daily routine and everything is aligned. Unquestionably you have the support necessary to help you, you have your goals outlined, now it comes down to how much effort are you willing to put in to make it happen.
Patience is the hardest part, but you must stack it against how long it took you to get the results you don’t want. Sometimes it can be a lifetime, but the best part about it is: it won’t take you a lifetime to fix it.
Marques Johnson. Full-time Trader.
I’m from Virginia and I grew up in a military home where I was raised by two parents who provided me the best of both worlds from how to be a good person and how to be self-sufficient in life. I’ve been trading for three years now and each year there’s always something significant I learn because the markets are changing all the time. I particularly focus on trading stock and futures options but trading isn’t the only thing I’m passionate about. Fitness is a significant aspect of my life and personal training is what I do throughout the day, so the balance of trading and fitness is a great mix for me mentally and physically which keeps me motivated every day.
