Tackle Today: The Bullish Breakout

The world of charting is full of patterns. There are dozens upon dozens. Here at Tackle Trading, we’re most fond of four of them. They’re outlined in simplicity in our STEP System, and we highlight a handful of them every weekend in our Scouting Reports.
Given the nature of the market in recent months, the bullish breakout pattern seems to be the most prevalent. Let’s discuss why it’s so attractive.
The best chart patterns boast two characteristics. One is a high probability of moving in one direction over the other. Two is low risk versus high reward. Take the Costco chart below, for instance. Over the past two months, $388 has held firm as resistance. We’ve seen many attempts to break through it, but each ultimately failed.
However, this morning’s push is succeeding where its predecessors failed. Though prices are only up 0.57% at the time of this writing, it’s been enough to signal the breakout is here.
If it sticks, the odds favor higher prices. A well-placed stop means your risk is minimal if the breakout attempt fails. And, if it succeeds, an increase in volatility and strong follow-through could mean big potential upside.
This is what a clean pattern and trigger look like.
