≈ These tech giants report after the bell ≈
Traders,
Stock markets are up slightly in early trading Thursday, after dropping aggressively during Wednesday’s session. Corporate earnings are in focus, as notable names like Comcast, Shopify, Budweiser, Spotify, Visa, and Amgen reported either yesterday after market or today before market. There is also economic data regarding Advanced GDP for the 3rd Quarter, Weekly Unemployment Claims, and a policy statement out of the European Central Bank.
None of these themes are as important as what is happening after the bell when Amazon, Apple, Google, and Facebook report their quarterly earnings. The combined market cap of these companies, including Microsoft who reported on Tuesday, is near $7 Trillion and almost 46% of the Nasdaq 100. This is going to be an important night for traders and investors alike. In the short-term, traders will look to see if the price reaction and response can create some buying interest for stocks in the face of the negative themes that have dragged the market lower the last few weeks.
Studying earnings reports, watching price reactions, preparing for volatility, and dealing with the charts afterward are all skills that will be valuable for you to build. Companies report earnings 4 times per year, and if you get a big reaction, it can completely change the outlook and analysis.
Get your popcorn ready for tonight’s big 4 reporting. Spend some time today reviewing last night’s webinar on how to prepare for earnings from Coach Tyler (video of the day below) and join us during our shows to analyze all of the information and action as it develops.

Chart of the Day
The Volatility Index (or VIX for short)
The Volatility Index has risen from 26 to 36 in the last few weeks as markets have sold off. When the VIX spikes, it represents option premiums rising. Option buyers are paying a little more today than they did a few weeks ago, and option sellers are getting a little more premium today than they did a few weeks ago.
