«Prepare accordingly.»
Traders,
The second-to-last Fed meeting of the year is upon us, and a lot is riding on this one. Here’s what you need to know.
- The market is banking on a 75 basis rate hike that will take the top end of the Fed Funds rate range to 4%.
- This will be the fourth straight 75 bps hike. The market hopes it’s the last mega-hike and that future hikes will be smaller.
- To that end, the highest odds bet is a 50 bps hike in the Dec 14th meeting.
Markets are entering the meeting on a high note. Positive responses during earnings season and the best October for the Dow Jones Industrial Average in a generation have equities trending higher on the daily time frame.
- Will Jerome Powell point toward a slowdown in rate hikes?
- Or will he steal the punch bowl, kill the lights, and call the cops?
You only have to wait another few hours for the answer.
