«Make Informed Decisions.»

Traders,

Coach Tyler here.

Mark your calendars for Monday, Feb 28th. On our YouTube Channel at 8:30 PM EST, I’ll be hosting a webinar titled Options Greeks for Beginners. The following week of messages will focus on these risk metrics to prepare you.

Let’s start with answering a simple question – Why do the Greeks matter?

① They help you understand what makes options tick. If someone doesn’t grasp why they made or lost money in an options trade, they’re probably missing something about the greeks.

② They tell you how much money is on the line at any given time. If you’re a risk manager, the options greeks are your best friend. You can quantify the extent of your exposure on individual positions and your overall portfolio.

③ They help you make more informed decisions. I don’t mind making the wrong decision and suffering losses. It’s inevitable and a byproduct of an unknowable future. But uninformed decisions? Those kill me. They’re avoidable and simply require you to look at the correct information. In options trading, the Greeks usually contain the information needed to make informed decisions.

With earnings season coming to a close we can now analyze how investors felt about Q4 earnings. In short – they didn’t like the numbers. Positive earnings surprises were met with fewer gains than usual. And negative earnings surprises got punished worse than average. Gross.
