“Success seems to be connected to action. Successful people keep moving. They make mistakes, but they never quit.”

J. Willard Marriott —

From a nine-stool root beer stand in Washington, D.C. to a multinational behemoth. That’s the history of Marriot International Inc. in a nutshell.

John Willard Marriott was born in 1900 in the State of Utah, and like many entrepreneurs of that time—early 20th century—, he was born into poverty and went to work while still a little kid. He was the son of a poor Mormon sheepherder and while at a young age went on missionary service to preach the Gospel.

While preaching in the East Coast, he finally experienced the hot and humid summers in Washington, D.C. By the age of 19, he thought to himself:

“If I can find a nice cold drink to sell to these fine people here, I can make a lot of money.”

However, it was not until 1927 that he and his wife, Alice Sheets Marriott, opened this nine-stool root beer stand on 14th Street in Washington, D.C. with $1,500 of their own money and a $1,500 loan.

Without further ado, you voted, you got it: Marriott International Inc. (NASDAQ: MAR) is the stock of the week on Tackle’s Instagram. Go to our profile and check Coach Noah’s analysis on the asset.

A cup and handle formation, not beautiful, but a cup and handle, nonetheless, a clean break and some good room to run. $MAR was also one of the picks in the last week’s Options Report. Pro Members should be very happy at this time.
