What’s up tackle traders! I hope you are all having a good trading week thus far and for those of you in the Condors for Cash Flow system on the RUT I feel your pain. I certainly do hope that you have read Tyler Craig’s posts on managing this bird that has clearly refused to behave.
Iron Condor Post-Mortem Part I
Iron Condor Post-Mortem Part II
On a more serious matter, our prayers and thoughts go out to all those affected in the Las Vegas shooting over the weekend. I was on a flight to San Diego last week and I sat next to two guys who were on their way to Vegas for the weekend. They were so excited and could not wait to get off the plane so they could meet up with their friend and drive to Vegas. I could relate to their excitement because I too have plans to go Vegas in a few months. We talked about where they were staying and at that time, accommodations were still to be determined. They just wanted to get there. By the time we landed in San Diego we were taking selfies and hugging it out as if we had been friends for a lifetime. Funny how there is so much hatred surrounding us in this world yet a few strangers can connect instantly and create an atmosphere of happiness and laughter in such a short period. I did not get their names or their numbers and I had no reason to at the time but now I wish I had because they have been on my mind all week long. I just want to know that they are ok. I have been glued to the TV just watching the aftermath and listening to the survivors telling their stories as to what they witnessed and also hoping that as the faces of the victims start to appear on screen it’s not of the two guys who sat next to me on the plane.
Whether it is a tragic event such as what happened in Vegas, Mother Nature with hurricanes and earthquakes that have affected so many people, or just the ups and downs of daily living, how do we stay on task with everything we deal with on a day to day basis and still keep up with trading? From cooking, laundry, to cleaning, praying, let alone trading, has been a struggle for me this week. Even writing this blog was a challenge and overcoming these challenges did not come easy. If you work from home, I am sure you can relate that without a boss watching over your shoulder it is easy every now and then to just hit snooze on that alarm and pull the covers for what we tell ourselves will be 10 minutes. A few snoozes later its mid-day and we are now eating cereal in bed catching up on Netflix shows. Now, factor in the current events happening around us, you have a month where the RUT is not behaving as it should, coupled with life situations, who would want to get out of bed? It is important to recognize when you are in a rut (pun intended *wink wink*) and know what steps to take to get you out. Be it spending time with family, prayer, meditation, going out to lunch with a friend or a night out with the girls figure out your escape route beforehand otherwise you will find yourself bathing it. Yes, at times we spend more time there than we should but the point is not to stay there.
For us traders, we tend pout over our losing trades more rather than stay on task and keep it moving. In this journey we are all in as traders, we know that it takes time to become a Master Trader. It does not happen overnight either and in the midst of the process we can grow weary and lose hope and interest in trading. So what will you do when you find yourself at that moment when life seems to get the best out of you and at the same time your trades aren’t doing well? So what the Iron Condor on the RUT was not profitable this month, you do it again anyway. What if it looks like next month will not be profitable either? The answer is JUST DO IT! Even when you don’t feel like it, just do it. A good way to stay on task and make a difference is to trade stocks that have a direct impact on the events happening. For instance, during the hurricane, a good trade might be having a bullish trade on Home Depot and a bearish trade on the cruise lines then donating the profits to charity is one way of doing something good. I did manage to place a few trades and even read a blog or two this week though this was not my best performance in terms of following a daily routine. The thing is, I gave it the best I could. The cooking and laundry were done although none of it got folded. LoL. My goal every day is not to be perfect at everything I do, it’s to give my best in everything that I do. When things are challenging, sometimes a tapping into our hope, faith or the little bit of energy we have left is all we need and that is okay. Events will happen in our lives and some will be more challenging than others so just make a commitment to trade even when life gets in the way.
