As a beginner trader, I always wondered what a full-time trading day would feel like.

Is that what I saw myself doing?

Do you see yourself as a full-time trader or part-time?

I mean would it be a walk in the park where I wake up and place a trade then hit the beach or maybe go back to bed?

Or was it having CNBC and Bloomberg going and watching the world markets as I hovered over 3 different computers while plugged into an I.V. of dripping coffee?

I remember a wake-up call back in the day as a young guy getting out of the military one day my friends and I who were really into bodybuilding thought “How cool would it be to be a pro bodybuilder and just hit the gym and be like Arnold SchwarzenGovernator?”. So we were fortunate to be close to the famous Golds Gym in Venice and World Gym and we saw the legends walk in. We knew they trained there. As we saw their size, and how hard they were working and realized they went 110% every day thinking and eating and sleeping like a pro, well we looked at one another and said yeah maybe we can just stay in shape and keep our day job. Truly these were the best of the best. And what it comes down to is: everything takes time, practice and truly to be good at your craft and not consider it to work it takes PASSION.

Well after years of social trading I decided to get a mentor who was a professional trader and it was a wake-up call. So I discovered it could be both. Some days the market tells you to sit on your hands and do nothing. NEVER FORCE THE TRADE. And sometimes the fish are biting so stick around and milk that cow dry. Of course, it also depends on what kind of trader you are.

Day traders, swing traders, and trend traders all trade different quantities and watch the market on various schedules. Then you have the different strategies, account sizes, and products that determine how much you can trade. What I found to be true of all types of trading is that the bigger the account, the more trading you will be doing. You will get faster at everything. Faster at finding opportunities, faster at making decisions, and faster at using the software and computers and brokerages. You are always growing and learning. In fact, if you aren’t always learning then you are not growing. I found that out by my many years teaching others to trade.

So I had a pretty busy day today. I did mostly selling options and closing old positions from about a week ago and found myself plugged into the coffee I.V. because the fish were biting and I was getting filled nicely. The main reason for this post was to give you, if you are new to trading, a real glimpse of what a trader actually does. I managed 3 accounts today. I had about 200+ orders placed today, all options and maybe equity and some ETFs, but mostly options, and out of those about 116 fills, mostly opening orders and some were stops that were hit. And none of these trades are considered day trades, I am mostly in and out in a week or 2. But the bigger the accounts the more trading you do.

Placing 200+ orders and all the decision processes behind it because I follow a well-defined plan and rules is a big job to some. But now you can actually weigh that against what you do day to day at your place of work. But if you are like me, after almost 17 years of trading, I actually am kind of bummed when I hear the closing bell. I am disappointed that I didn’t get a chance to manage other accounts that I have. But now I can hang out with all of you on the website and share my passion. But I remember starting with just a small account and knowing what I wanted to be. It’s not work when it’s fun.

I hope all of you reading this find that passion in trading and stick to it. Or at least you find that passion in something and find a great team to work with like my team of coaches I have here. Love to hear your comments, and love to see how many trades you are doing daily and weekly. Again, But the bigger the accounts the more trading you do.

  1. I’m very happy for you Gino that you had a busy day. Hope I’ll get there some day soon… And I sure do love the images 🙂

As of now, I’m trying to place at least 2-3 trades per day and manage the rest. I do start liking the Weeklies these days as I get paid every week 😉

  2. Matt Justice says:

Gino, that is amazingly impressive. All in a days work

  3. Yes the weeklies are great! I especially love the weekly options with the penny increments.
