Tackle Today: Fed day, Fun Day

September 21, 2022

«It is Fed day. Grab the Popcorn.»

Traders,

The wait is over, and the most important Fed meeting of your life is here. Or not. They meet every six weeks. Don’t let the media overhype the importance of any single one. One thing is true, though. We’ve seen excessive market volatility following previous Fed meetings and speeches, so it is worth being prepared.

And what does “prepared” mean?

① First, check your existing portfolio exposure. Are you comfortable with the number of positions and the amount of risk you’re taking? This applies if you’re a bull or bear. Those who think the market is predestined to fall after the Fed meeting are overplaying their hand. It could very well go up – so be prepared for volatility whichever way it arrives.

② Second, review your trade plan for existing positions and potential new entries. If the S&P 500 cracks support and heads back to the June low in the coming days – what new plays will you deploy? The same question goes for if we get a melt-up.

Check out the chart below for an updated look at what the seers say about how big of a rate hike we’re getting.

75 basis point rate hike is consensus. But there is an 18% chance of a 1% rate hike. The reveal is oh so close.
