In celebration of May the 4^th, here’s a throwback post from our Tales of a Technician blog that originally appeared in 2017. It’s a message penned by our resident options Jedi, Tyler Craig.

“Trading can be a lonely sport. In my early years, I was a hermit. Like Obi-Wan Kenobi alone in a sea of sand with only Banthas and the occasional roving Jawas keeping me company. The solitude was nice, sure. But it wasn’t exactly an environment fostering growth and learning. When you’re the smartest, nay, the only Jedi in the room, elevating your trading skills is a fantasy.

I needed community, a place I could go for inspiration and accountability. A place where seeing others trade made me want to trade. A place where my learning could accelerate while my money mastery multiplied. As a trading coach myself, I was living beneath my privileges. Unlike Obi-Wan I actually knew other trading Jedi, I just didn’t go out of my way to meet them at the Cantina.  I didn’t invite them over to discuss strategy over a friendly game of Dejarik. There was never a Wookie in the room for me to let win.

I was, as I said, a recluse.

I needed a mentor, someone more skilled, to teach me the ways of the trade. Sure I had a few here and there (one which you’ll meet in the hotly-anticipated Condors for Cash Flow video series coming down the pike), but after I learned the basics and felt comfortable enough to teach the masses, I left for Tatooine.”
