≈ Build a plan for your trades ≈
Traders,
January welcomes in the new year, but it also brings with it another earnings season for the financial markets. This week alone, we have some big names reporting like Citigroup, Blackrock Inc, Delta Air Lines, JPMorgan Chase, Albertsons, KB Home, Taiwan Semiconductor just to name a few.
Next week earnings reports include United Health, Netflix, Intel, Bank of America, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, and Haliburton just to name a few.
When we move into earnings season, there are several things you need to consider. First, if you are in a trade, you need to determine the earnings date and build your decision on when and why to get out of your trade into your plan. If you are investing, you may need to consider whether you will hedge your investment by collaring your stock trade (that involves buying a put option against your shares to take some of the risk out).
If you know how to use Vega strategies, you might also have opportunities to trade earnings reports if you find a volatility edge (either through the volatility build leading up into earnings or the volatility crush through and after earnings).
Earnings can create an important theme for the market, as companies either start to beat or miss numbers, and then as we watch the price response.
However, you’re approaching earnings this year, just remember to look up the earnings dates for your trades and make sure you’re aware of when they report. Preparation is key in trading, and this is a step you don’t want to skip.
