Start With Why - Tackle Trading

≈ Life 101 ≈

The year was 2015, month of August. I have signed up for a full learning package just the month before. At that time, I had all the questions you can possibly imagine and no answers. The only thing I knew was that was the path and nothing else. I was facing the unknown.

During one of the Master Trader classes, Tim Justice asked us, students, to send him over the email any trading/investing topic we were struggling with. He would then pick one and make a video out of it, a Monday Morning Mailbag type of video that Tackle Trading had back in the day.

There was a specific topic that was haunting me over and over again.
I’ve sent the email on August 17th.
He answered me on August 23rd.
Black Monday was just around the corner.

A day new traders would never forget. Although on paper, my account was decimated. By the end of that day, I was already thinking I was not up to the task of becoming an investor.

On that same night, I’ve decided to write down on a document “Why am I doing this”. Two bullet points came out together with tears. Those are the WHYs that still keep me in one piece during the darkest hours of the journey.

Happens that Tim chose my email. Two days later he released the video “Tackle Trading 101: Start with Why”. Everything fell into the right place, then.

Fast-forward 5 years. Here we are today releasing the 2019 version of “Start With Why”.

Know why you are here.
Know why you are doing what you are doing.
Commit to the whys.
The rest will follow.

Is this really a Trading 101 video? More like a Life 101 to me.

“Why do I stand up here? I stand upon my desk to remind myself that we must constantly look at things in a different way.”

Robin Williams, Dead Poets Society, 1989. —
