There has been a lot of volatility in the market in the last month. Heading into the week we started with the horrific news coming out of Israel and a slew of economic data in front of us including the CPI data released today. That is a lot of uncertainty for any market condition, especially the one we found ourselves in to begin the week.

Volatile periods have a tendency of separating the wheat for the chaff. Strong uptrends tend to lead to a rising tide lifting most boats. Strong market downtrends tend to do the reverse. Volatile periods where you have a lot of back and forth (did you know we are basically unchanged on the S&P over the last two months?) tend to separate quality from the rest of the pack.

Equity charts that are strong versus the market are telling you something in this environment. Charts that are weak versus the market also likely telling you a story. Our job as traders is to act listen to that story and come up with a plan of action.
