Well hello there Tackle Traders! Coach Em here bringing you this week’s Friday Feature blog.

My mom is by far the coolest person I know. She has a natural way of just connecting with everyone she comes across and she fits in with any age group in our family. She’s the cool aunt when with my cousins that can talk all things #trending, the coolest grandma for sure but when she’s with her sisters there is another level of coolness that arises amongst all of them that naturally makes us want to be a part of that environment. When they get together or even when they are on the phone with each other, the giggling, high fiving and just about every loud version of laugh out loud you can possibly imagine is exercised in those conversations and anyone witnessing them can’t help but participate. For her birthday my kids made a video for their grandma and used the song This is for the cool in you by Babyface because she’s a huge fan. But besides it being a song title, it’s also what trading is all about.

There is just something cool about having this skill set of clicking buttons to generate an income. I’ve imagined time and time again how cool it must have been to be a floor trader back when that was the trend or just thinking about the movies or books I’ve read about traders and the endless stories and experiences they all had. Trading is certainly not something I think anyone thought of doing when they were kids and I would guess the majority of us got introduced to trading as adults yet we simply think it’s cool. Not to shy away from the complexity that trading comes with because it does but once you get passed knowing how to use the broker software and understand the basic mechanics of placing buy and sell orders, etc. there is a level of chill that one gets when it all starts to make sense. It gets elevated even more when you meet fellow traders and you find someone who can speak your TRIBE! Next thing you know you are giggling, high fiving and bursting out just about every loud version of laugh out loud just like my mom and her sisters do! In fact, just last week at the Traders Expo, I met so many traders and I can’t count how many high fives and hugs I exchanged with complete strangers. I get so excited when I meet traders and they don’t even have to be experienced. Just a spark of interest in anything trading related I’m all ears.

If you are brand new, you may feel as though you don’t belong in the cool kids club but you do! The fact that you are reading this means that there is interest and as long as you keep showing up to learn and apply the strategies, systems, and support that #TeamTackle has to offer, trust me you’ve earned a spot! 

With that said, there is a much much cooler spot reserved just for the ladies who despite the many challenges we go through find time every day to embrace the world of trading. Women In Trading is that special place where we can all come together to support and learn from each other. It’s a place where you get out of your shell and share your experiences about trading from what works and what doesn’t but most importantly it’s a place we can talk about life outside of trading.

Emily Muiruri

Emily Muiruri was born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya before her family moved to the US and settled in Maryland, Emily began her trading journey in January 2015 after 17 years of Property Management in the Self-Storage Industry. Like many new traders, Emily started off with directional trading strategies such as long calls, long puts and very little in cash flow strategies. Over time that has changed and now her core trading strategies are cash flow based such as are Covered Calls, Naked Puts, and Iron Condors.
